The scan incudes: Ultrasound report with a 2D b/w picture
Preparation: We need your bladder full for this scan so you need to drink 1lt (2 pints) of water an hour before your scan.
Before the dating scan our sonographer will explain the examination procedure.
The ultrasound scan is normally performed trans-abdominally however an internal scan (transvaginal) may be required to see all the necessary detail, or if your womb tilts backwards. We will always try to scan trans-abdominally first but if we need to do an internal scan then we will discuss this with you. To perform this baby scan, you will be asked to lie down on the examination couch and expose your lower abdomen. A small amount of warm jelly will be applied to your skin and the ultrasound probe will be moved to different directions to obtain the images.
